Just check at what time the sun sets in your region and get there 30 minutes - 1 hour early. You might want to do the first trip just to get an idea as to what you can photograph. Expect to have to come back again. Get there, set up, and shoot 'til it's dark. Be sure to try a few panos
. My best sunset shots were when the sun was past the horizon when the first stars started appearing :P.
