Default Yes, it's possible

I took this photo on a recent trip to San Francisco. We were on the ferry returning from Alcatraz and the sun was setting behind the Marin headlands creating a wonderful silhouette of the Golden Gate Bridge.

I metered from the sky at the edge of the sun, locked exposure then recomposed using the bridge as a focal point.

As the boat was rolling up and down a lot I did take a lot of exposures to ensure I captured the bridge sharply. I was also able to track the sun as it got lower and lower. I lucked out with a sailing boat in the frame of some of them - which I couldn't actually see at the time because it was so bright!

A small amount of PP in ACR - straightened the horizon a little and a tiny bit of fill light to bring out the detail of sailing boat.

It was my first attempt at sunrise or sunset so I was rather pleased.

Here is my recent just after Sunset HDR image. Could you have done this without HDR, idk but I always choose HDR because that is what I like to do. I tried GND filters but dont like them, probably because I don't know how to use them to the full extent but thats my fault for not trying harder

Austin at twilight

Here is another from the beach in which I woke up early to catch the sunrise...
