Good day shooters... can you please tell, why the sky color looks very blue on picture attached? what should be the ideal settings to tame the sky.... my gear is D40 using 50mm and kit 18-55mm.

EXIF: P mode, auto WB, ISO200, 50mm, F11

TIA

theres many reasons why the sky change's blueness in real life and in photos. These vary from time of day, angle of the sun, how many clouds are in the sky, the weather, the lens, lens filters, white balance settings and so on. If you own some software like photo-shop you could easily quick mask the sky and lower the saturation a bit to a less distracting level. Alternatively you could try shooting early morning or later on in the day/evening, or try changing the white balance and exposure settings in your camera which may produce something nice

I see what you mean, it looks as though the ruins were photoshopped onto a blue background.

If you want to change it you could try a little burning in to darken the blue and maybe even a little dodging here and there as well to try and create a little variation and make it less ...flat. (That's not a criticism btw, just my way of describing the textureless sky)

one other suggestion, if you cut out the sky using your method of choice, and then replace the sky with a more dynamic stock sky

I'm guessing the sky was flat and blue. Because it fills up a relatively large area of the image, the camera has set to work and calculated settings that leave it well exposed. This is probably better than the blown out sky that is found in a lot of pictures but it does look a bit flat.

The in-camera fix is to frame your shot in a way that has less sky and more ruins.
