North Esk Church in the town of Mussleburgh, East Lothian, Scotland.

Picture taken from south bank of the river Esk.

Comments most welcome.

Nice shot. I have mixed feelings about the dominance of the tree, but the church and the sky are beautiful. I wonder what it would look like if you turned a little to the right taking the bridge, building and some of the tree out but getting more church? This might also be a nice candidate for HDR if you like that sort of thing.

I had to crop the picture to the right as it is a busy street all that was in view was lots of parked cars, street signs and garbage bins etc. Which spoiled the otherwise nice view of the Church. I also removed some unsightly TV masts masts form the Church towers.

I would have like to PS out the building to the left behind the bridge and bring down the sky more but my PS skills at present are not up to that.

HDR may give that a try... Shooting RAW and bracketing frames is new to me, only been doing this for two weekends but hey I like a challenge.

Thanks for the comments, much appreciated.

Gary.

Gary.
Sigh, isn't that the way it usually is!

Those buildings on the bottom left are distracting to me. I think it'd be wise to crop them out entirely.

i also agree that whatever's on the left is distracting, but other than that it's an awesome shot!!
love the sky and the texture in the building and tree. did you desaturate the colors a bit? i'd be interested to see it converted to B&W with a little more contrast for mood.

Gary I like this shot as well. I am liking your images, I may ahve to look into the K10 again. Reviews showed a more restricted dynamic range and iffy metering so I gave up, but your shots look great. Which lens did you use and what focal length ?, thanks.

I am using the kit lens that came with the camera Pentax 18-55mm. I will try and locate the EXIF data and post.

Thanks for the comments which I will put into practice on next shoots.

Regards,

Gary.

Firstly - IMHO, it's a very good image Gary

Your shutter speed is 1/500. Not really needed for something that hasn't moved for hundreds of years lol! (just having a laugh mate)

Personally, I would have used Aperture priority and set the aperture to f/8 or f/11. That would give you a decent enough shutter speed for hand held at 45mm focal length to avoid camera shake and would have added overall sharpness to the image. Then I would for sure crop just to the left of the flower bed and get rid of whatever was left of that incongruous (imho!) building at left in PS...
