Patience is your best friend. Try shooting early early in the morning or right at and after sunset. You'll find the lighting is much better doing those times.
If you are photographing the vegetation, try doing so from different angles. Not just standing and photographing straight down.
Take a tripod if you have one, if not use available sources such as rocks to help steady your camera

As a general rule, avoid shooting into the sun - doing so can play havoc with getting all of a scene exposed properly - especially when the shot includes at least some sky.

But, on the other hand, if the sun is directly behind something such as a flower, and if the flower both fills the frame and blocks out the sun, then shooting into the sun can be a great way to get some cool looking shots.

And rules are always meant to be broken - it just takes a bit of trial and error to know when and how to pull it off.

If you can, to get shots of moving water in the creek, put the camera in shutter priority, set the shutter for a half second or so, place the camera on tripod or rock and see what happens.

Bottom line: experiment and have fun! It's digital, so feel free to try all sorts of stuff. See what you like.

Nature photography is a very exciting field. The best tip I can give you is to spend more time in nature and take as many shots as you can. Practice makes perfect, as they say. Wander around the best places and see when the light is best. Also, you have to observe, observe, and observe. Look and study how species behave so before you click and fire away, you can predict that amazing moment of action.
