From experience with the Tulip festival, a slightly overcast day works best, but if youre out on a sunny day, bright sun is best. The flower beds are fairly out in the open, so you get a pure bright light on the flower heads themselves and they're just so punchy. I've forgotten where I put those pictures from last year.... *rummage* AHA! I've added it at the bottom of my post. In this case, the sun was hidden fairly well behind an intermittent cloud, but this was taken in the early afternoon (1-2pm). EXIF: Nikon D80 Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 Aperture: 1.8 Shutter speed: 1/4000 ISO: 100 Like I said, it was PLENTY bright.
