Default Take me out to the ballgame...

went out to a Cub's game last night for my birthday and decided to take my dslr and new sigma lens. i've never actually brought those cameras to the stadium, i typically bring a P&S. in the bleachers people tend to get a bit drunk and rowdy, and i try to concentrate on the game not taking pictures, so i doubt i'll bring it again. only took a handful at the stadium, and the rest after we were heading back from the bars. anyway...

it was real hot before the sunset, but once it did the weather was beautiful

for the next two photos i was messing around with the white balance and used a tungsten, then desaturated the image, leaving a bit of blue in the photo. thought it came out kind of cool like selective coloring. thoughts?

waiting for the el after the bars

a button you shouldn't play with after a few drinks

unfortunately, we missed the last train to our car so we ended up having to take a $30 cab ride to get to it. ouch! ah well, all in good fun

C&C always welcome and appreciated.

cheers,
Matt

First of all, I'm jealous. My husband is an insane Cubs fan (hailing from Oregon, go figure) and when we started dating, I made it my gift to him to go to a Cubs game every year for his birthday. I haven't been able to go for 3 years now (pregnant and then with babies) and really miss it. Cubs are doing well this year!

Anyway, I really like the desaturated photo with the blue. And the shot of the stadium lights is beautiful. It rained the only night game we made it to.

I commend your bravery for taking the nicer camera into the bleachers. I've had beer spilled on me within minutes both times we sat out there. It was worth the great shots you got!

I like the second one best. That touch of blue draws your eye through the shot. Generally I'm not too fond of selected color, but this is subtle.

thank you. i guess i probably shouldn't mention this is about my 13th game this season with two more games this weekend, huh?
i lived out in PDX for a year and it was beautiful. i had to fly home to catch the cubs a few times during the season. the great thing about sports is most of the time you can catch your favorite team play in a stadium that's close to you. even if i didn't live in chicago i could see the cubbies play in another city when they visit. my friends and i try to go to a new stadium each year when the cubs are in town. this year it was when they played the braves in atlanta.

Those are some very nice shots. I gotta take my D40 with me to a game. Can't say I like your team -- I am a die hard Met's fan. Here is one I took a few weeks ago at a game but only with the camera in my phone

You must have a pretty good camera in your phone, that's not a bad quality shot.

I'll forgive you for being a Cubs fan (South Side represent!) :P - I love that first shot. Something about the colors and the silhouette and the stadium lights lining the top... I really like the composition.

Bragger... I sent him to a White Sox game this summer in Seattle because all the Cubs games were sold out on the West Coast They got creamed but what can you do? We lived in San Fran for a bit too and never could get to the new stadium when the Cubs came. Last summer I sent him and his brother to Wrigley and they had *quite* the time at the Cubbie Bear after the loss. Something about jumping rope drunk...

I'll be looking forward to any other pictures you post from the rest of the games!

Personally, I find the first shot to be phenominal. The silloette (ok I cant spell that one) and the sunset make this a wonderful capture!

I have an LG VX9900 enV which has a 2 megapixel camera and it even lets you adjust whitebalance - but the lens is fair at best. I works in a pinch when I don't have a real camera with me.
