My D100 has mirror lock up....

And the reason for not shooting with a lens wide open is because generally lenses are not at their sharpest wide open so like Inkista said stop the lens down to f8-f16 or so as long as you have a fast enough shutter speed to freeze the motion.

D80 has mirror lock up. it has to either be plugged in with a DC converter or have full-charge on the batteries.

Depends on your definition of MLU.

The D80's exposure delay can be used similarly to MLU, but true MLU means you can actually choose when the shutter opens after the mirror's out of the way (you hit the shutter button twice--once to get the mirror out of the way, the second time to open the shutter). Waiting for all vibration to dissipate can often take longer than 0.4s (like, say, waiting for a breeze to go by). The D80's 'mirror-up' function is for sensor cleaning, not for shooting.

You don't get the hit-the-shutter button twice thing until you hit the Dxxx tier.

DSC_0109

Nikon D90
Exposure: 0.01 sec (1/100)
Aperture: f/10.0
Focal Length: 200 mm
ISO Speed: 1000

The shot you have is great. Some of us cannot afford the 400mm prime.
This is the shot I took this morning after reading your post. Check the stats and see how far off you are to what I did. But with all that said, you have a great shot. Maybe use Photoshop to work it a bit.

What do you suggest if there is not way to connect your camera by remote? I am getting a Panasonic DMC FZ28, and it doesn't have a way to shoot remote.

Timer. If you don't have a remote you can use the timer.

I have gotten many moon shots and I have found that the sweet spot is f5.6 and an Iso anywhere from 200 to 640 and a shutter speed anywhere from 1/60 to 1/1000s and center weighted 8mm on my Nikon d70s

example with a cheap 70 to 300mm f5.6

example 500mm reflex lens f8 manual

I have many moon shot on my web galleries

Try renting or buying a telescope. Then shoot through the viewfinder. I found the results are pretty amazing, and you can see the mountains and craters on the moon. I have several thousand photos and once I have loaded my disc of moon pictures, I'll post some on my site. Take care.
