Default Cheap Weatherproofing for Rain

Hey, I'm wondering if you folks have any good tips on how to keep your camera from getting soaked while shooting in the rain. It'd be nice if they don't involve an expensive waterproof casing. Should I just get one of those hats with a built-in umbrella? Cause I'd rather not have to wear that, but I'll do what it takes.

Thanks in advance!

Drape a poncho over you and your camera.

clear shower cap from a hotel will keep the body fairly dry. won't help you in a hurricane and it won't protect your lens but it's free.

i've got a couple in my bag just in case. otherwise i'd just put a plastic bag over top everything and hope for the best.

Wolf's got the idea: wrap a clear showercap around the body so that the elastic wraps around the barrel of the lens. Its not 100% but its better than nothing.

I usually have an assistant holding an umbrella over me/my camera, or I avoid shooting in the rain as much as possible. When its unavoidable, though, I keep the camera put away (under my jacket) and only pull it out to shoot.

A Walmart bag works great. I always carry a few in my camera bag.

Just make sure you don't seal any water in there with the camera, which could almost be worse.

I use a 2.5 gallon zip-lock bag with a hole cut in one corner. I slide just enough of the lens through the hole to allow me to attach a hood or filter holder. The 2.5 gallon size is big enough that I can get my hands in with my camera body and lens without being cramped, and deep enough that there's plenty of plastic covering the back of the camera. It's not ideal, but it's really cheap, and has worked well for me so far.

I just picked up a "RAINSLEEVE" from the camera shop for 8 bucks. It has a drawstring closure around the lens and an eye piece hole that seals when r/r the the eyepiece. They give you 2 in the bag.

Spend the money for an actual rain sleeve, Protect your 1000 investment with a $20 sleeve.

Although properly cut out the big 2.5 gallon ziploc works wonders.

and like stated above, for all mean, DRY you equipment off big time before you put it away, otherwise you'll go to use it next time & you'll find fungus on your lens.
