I was in the same boat as you! I kept trying and trying to catch the full moon, only to end up with basically the same types of pictures. Unfortunately, I decided to just go with a longer zoom lens and that seemed to work pretty good for me.

I still had to crop the image but overall I was pleased with it...

Moon 250mm

Camera: Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSi
Exposure: 0.002 sec (1/500)
Aperture: f/5.6
Focal Length: 250 mm
ISO Speed: 800
Exposure Bias: 0 EV
Flash: Flash did not fire

It just takes practice...

I agree you need a bigger lense but you dont have to go mad, i can get some good ones with my 70-300mm (have a look in the sales atm, you might find yourself a bargin!)
Though my best are with my 50-500mm, you can see some on my flickr stream if you want (theres a moon set)

I ausually start off at about 1/125 and f11 with iso at 200 then go from there unless only a little bit of moon is about, i also find my lcd lies so if it looks a bit bright its usually one of the best when on the comp.

I dont believe you need to get a 400mm for a decent moon shot.

This pic was my try taken with a standard 70-300mm Sigma 'Kit' lens.

Hope this helps

Cheers

Default need a bigger lens

your filter won't help with the image size of the moon you captured. You need at least a 300-400mm or longer lens to get the shot you want to capture.

Fraid not. A polariser works when the light is at an anlgle to the lens. With the moon you are pointing directly at it. Also the glare you see is not really glare, its over exposure . Expose correctly for the moon and you shouldn't get any.

Anthony, did you check out the link in my earlier post called "Shooting the Moon" for tips on getting moon shots with a p&s? Did you try it and what did you think?
