Default Blue Moon

My first moon shot! I'm surprised that it was during daylight, but we take it when we can. Also my first time using a new lens.

While I was delighted that I could see details like craters on the moon, I am perplexed as to why there is so much noise, especially in the blue sky...? And the edge of the moon is not very crisp, what's up with that?

Can anyone tell me how I might improve the noise/crispness next time the moon avails itself to me?

As far as editing goes, a crop, and a tiny highlight recovery.

Moon - my first attempt (by zesprii)

Camera: Canon EOS 450D
Exposure: 0.017 sec (1/60)
Aperture: f/5.6
Focal Length: 200 mm
ISO Speed: 100
Exposure Bias: 0 EV
Flash: Flash did not fire

Just to get a better idea of what happened:

- This was about 7:19 PM?
- Were you on a tripod?
- Moon was near horizon?

hehe, I like the style of questions, detective clickit!! :-)

It was actually 8:19pm, I discovered a couple of nights ago that I'd forgotten to change my camera for daylight savings time.
Yes to the tripod
No to the horizon, it was just in our backyard, in the middle of the sky.

Possibly it was due to environmental conditions? I just found a handy guide for my next attempt at a moon photo: http://www.cleardarksky.com/c/Halifaxkey.html?1 Perhaps there is a New Zealand equivalent?

I really, really like that shot. Not sure where the noise is coming from but I think the lack of crispness has to be the atmosphere?

The sharpness will be due to atmospherics, always plays a problem with astronomical shot.

It also looks like there is some chromatic abheration (not sure of spelling) which if removed will sharpen the image and also make some of the noise disappear.
