That is so dreamy... I would love to learn to take shots like that. I'm okay with the brown water.... that's nature! I love the picture.

For water shots like this you want to leave the shutter open for at least 1/4 second or longer. Though, the longer you can leave it open the smoother the water will be. Something to look out for with long shutter speeds is that it really makes the movement in the water look great, but it can cause problems on anything else in your shot that might be moving as well.

Hi Chippee
Another thing to keep in mind is the time of day, you want very little to no sun light so dusk is a good time for these shots or a very grey day, otherwise you'll over expose your shots with the long exposure. Good luck and just experiment with your camera and have fun. |

I was rewarded with a rainy day when I took this shot. The overcast sky made it dark enough to get me a 1/6sec exposure. The rain also added some nice detail and contrast to the rock.

Batch i took the liberty to darken down your picture a little bit. I think it brings out a bit more detail and better contrast. Hope you like it.

Seconds, many seconds. The problem arise during day: you can have low ISO, high F number (32...), but the exposure time can be anyway too short to get good results. You can use ND (neutral density, available in different strenght) filter, which just limits the amount of light passing, and/or polarizer (another neutral way to limit light). With thi system even in the sunniest day you can obtain long exposure times.
See the attachment: 13 sec., F/36, ISO 100, ND 4X + polarizer (about 1,5 stops more) Ciao! |
