What amazed me about this shot is how much the stars and moon move in such a short time. Another thing i learnt from this shot was that i should have taken a torch with me as the camera would not focus on auto and that i could not see much through view finder to focus manually.

I learned to bring a flash light as well. Might I recommend a very powerful large one. It allows you to illuminate more and check you focus a little better.

That boat seems to be a good 30+ feet away: just manual focus to infinity.

I uite like the shot, actually. 108 seconds is a bit long, but possibly necessary. Its just short of two minutes. You'll start noticing star trails after about 30 seconds, but they'll really only be noticeable after 60.

Still a great shot. If you really dont like the star trails, try just cloning them out. I do like them, though

Love the photo, I also take a lot of low light or night time photos. Usually I turn off the auto focus then focus the lens on infinity. One of the great features of digital photography is the delete function, this means I can take many shots of the same subject changing focus, bracketing and time to get the perfect shot. Good job!

Osmosisand and Philip, thanks for your reply and comments. I have only got an 17-55 kit lens that i use for landscape shots and not sure i can set it to infinity, i'll have to check it out, thanks.

If its the kit lens, you can set it to infinity: it may not have marks for it, but its easy: infinity is at one end of the focus range. Usually about a milimeter from the very very end.

Lovely scene,I think the fact that the yacht is of an older style makes the photo. A newer model would not have looked so good.
