Default Best Time for Landscape photography?

Hi all, I'm a new member and new to DSLR photography. I'm just wondering what is the best time to take landscape photography is it a general rule that dusk or dawn is the best time to take photography for landscapes or does that only apply when water is involved in the photo?

Or what I've just said is a load of ....

Thanks for reading.

I prefer dusk or dawn as the sun is not so intense. Because of the low angle of the sun you get many shadows from objects such as trees, mountains etc etc which add to the depth and interest of the photos.

Shooting over water is a little trickier, especially if the sun is setting or rising. You have to properly expose for the low light/bright light or your image will blow out. The best way is to get out there and try a few different things. I was shocking at shooting my first sunrise over the ocean, but after a bit of practice I have managed some pretty decent images.

Dunno if this really answers your question or helps you in anyway, but good luck with it.

I was giving your question more thought last night and wanted to let you knoe that you can still take a great landscape shot in the middle of the day. You just have to be aware of the light, the suns position and compensate for that.

For example, this was taken in the middle of the day.

...im going in!

The hour just after sunrise and just before sundown are regarded as the "golden" hours for photography because of the quality of light produced. Because the sunlight is filtered through more of the atmosphere at these times of day the light is warmer and more diffuse. Because of the quality of light created, you can create some very dramatic images during these hours of the day. Do you have to shoot during these hours? Not at all, you can get interesting photos at any time of day, but sometimes just shooting during the golden hours can be the difference between a good and a great photo.

I prefer late afternoon to dusk. I'm not a morning person unless I'm camping or I want to torture my wife by dragging her out of bed to go shoot pictures early in the morning hehe.

Like others have said though, mid-day is ok but you just have to be very aware of your light, where it's coming from and how it plays with the surroundings.
