1 times focal length was right. but due to the extra sensitivity,of sensor receptors,a 3 times focal length will ensure you get less camera shake.Try it, then tell me it doesn't work- Do your homework,do not read anything by Bryan Peterson, and you will survive photographically.I have been in the business too long to argue with those who think they know.
