Default Photography and Gardening

I imagine that some of you are probably keen gardeners. Plants are such beautiful subjects for photography it makes a lot of sense to keep some of your own if you have room (and, as a plus, there are plenty of edible ones to supplement your diet... no more buying salad for the next few months for me!).

I try to get out and take pictures in the back garden once in a while not just for the sake of building my photographic skills but also as a visual journal of what is growing out there. I wish I had been more into photography when we first bought our flat and the garden was relatively unkept, with grass, sycamores and a buddleja lolling across the ground at the back!

Here is a link to what was going in my garden (London, UK) last month:

Cytisus Flowers

What about you? Do you have a photographic journal of what is growing in your patch?

Wulf, the set is wonderful! I really like this shot, so velvety smooth looking.

I truly need to start a garden. I've got some type of iris that was given to me by a co-worker when she thinned hers that I put in the ground last year. I was glad they actually grew this spring and I just noticed a green bud yesterday. I'll have my own flower to shoot soon.

I don't necessarily have a "garden" but I do have a lawn and some herbs which take pictures of from time to time. Not in any way "artsy" but just to document my progress.

"Journal" probably makes it sound too organised! I don't shoot regularly or from set positions; however I do try to get out now and then and do a walk round the garden with my camera in hand. You can see the collection of my other shots on Flickr.

Also, for those interested in the technical side, the latest set were all done with my Nikon 50mm f/1.8 E Series lens (sharp, fast and small). Close-up work was achieved by adding my Raynox DCR-250 adaptor. Most of the shots were taken at f/4 (lots of light, very sharp, reasonable depth of field and some bokeh) although I changed to f/8 for the last couple of macro shots where I needed more DoF.

I dont have a garden at the mo but we have got an allotment.

Since we got it just over a year ago ive been taking radom pics, they would be of anything and very thing from strawberry plants to weeds. Some of them are on my flickr photostream. It werid looking back to last year or through winter when nothing was done to how it is now!

Since picking photography up i have started to grow my own flowers, i have some livingstone daisys that have just opened (some pics on flickr) and have some sunflowers going down the allotment along with a differetn type but cant think of the name! Doesnt help my hayfever but does my photography

From seeing this thread i have made a collection just for the allotment and see what type of different things i can get and placed them all together You can see it here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/puckers...7605608186703/

I love gardening. One of the first things I started photographing when I bought my dslr were plants in my yard. My garden set includes flowers I have brought indoors as well as some seasonal changes and occassional self-portraits of me enjoying my garden!
I hope to see some more garden sets here. I love seeing what everyone is growing around the world!
