Default End of the day

The cyclist was probably rushing home with his kid(s) at dusk, along the beach. I loved the misty backdrop and thought of capturing the mood. The sky was washed out, so I increased the red.
DSC_0278

EXIF: ISO 200, F/7.1, 1/400, Aperture Priority

In the shot, there are several lines - the sea horizon, the beach horizon and background at the the distance, I converged two of them at the cyclist. I need some opinions on the composition.

I also feel there is a lot of blank sky, but, still did not crop it, instead I cropped a bit of foreground. I would like to know if this works.

The reddish tint was intentional, I wanted to create the mood, does it really work?

Pls let me have your comments

Thanks

there does seem to be a lot of sky and normally I would say there is too much. But for this pictrue it works. Perhaps it's the tint and that too works for this. For me anyway.

I really like it and think large vast areas work great when the subject is small in comparison.
Nice feeling to the image.

i agree. i'm no expert, but when using minimal "objects" in the shot, it works best when the color is great. i think this is not so much a landscape shot based on composition, but a shot based on a combination of colors (whether intended or not). if the biker was not present, it would be very flat and boring, but it adds just the right touch without ruining the awesome color combinations.

It kind of reminds me of two jesu album covers:

Thanks a lot guys for you for taking a look and offering your view, I am happy that the overall feeling is positive. I had posted the same shot in the critiques at
End of the day
and got a set of different suggestions as well.

raublekick, I enjoyed the jesu almum covers.

Default Late Entry

I'm jumping in late here but I wanted to say that I think your composition is great. The scales of the rider and the surrounding sky and beach are very compelling and the colors are really nice.

I think you've let the look of this photo do its thing without trying to make it comform to any guidelines. That often works out very well.

I'd be tempted to crop to lose more of the beach, keep just a small strip along the bottom and give it more of a panoramic aspect ratio and a super-minimal feeling.

Don't have access to any image editting stuff here but a quick tweak in Word picture editting gave (what i think) is a much stronger image.

*edit* And I think it's a great image too, good spot and capture and I like the simple post processing
