I do think it looks better b&w--how are you converting? It might be better with a bit more contrast and maybe bring out the midtones some. I am not seeing the blur spots, but they might be hard to spot at this size. Love the history here and you got a great photo for an el cheapo p&s as you say

you may also want to rotate the image a bit so that the verticals are straight.

I like the BW one better too. I didn't really see any blurry spots.
