Default New York skyline

Would love any tips on photographing this iconic skyline at sunset from a cruise. Ideally would do a long exposure on a tripod but will not have this luxury, so pleeese, any tips would be really appreciated.

I'm about to take a cruise myself, and I found this link (Pocket “TRIPOD” ) while researching the cruise stops. I don't know if this works, but I thought it was an interesting solution.

Check this out... don't know if it'll work with a DSLR, though. The Bottle Cap Tripod at The Photojojo Store

Guys... he's gonna be on a cruise. On a ship. Tripod or not, the ship's movement is gonna make it completely irrelevant.

I tried some while I was on a cruise recently. Best I can figure is crank the ISO, reasonable shutter speed, VR on and take several. You will get quite a few blurry, but some will work when you get lucky with the ships movement.

Long exposure on a boat is really not how you want to go about this shot. Unless it is possible for the boat to stay absolutely still for about 30seconds, which we know is not possible. Could try to crank the iso up, but the shutter would still be too slow. I'd say just comeback with a tripod and shoot from something that doesn't move. Just trying to save you the irritation of blurry photos...
