Default Question on daytime shots

So I'm out in the woods, it's full daylight and I want to take some pictures. Any tips for taking good pictures when it's not dawn or dusk? I am interested in landscapes and nature shots.

Thanks.

Although you're going to find the harshest lighting conditions in midday, a circular polarizer will help to reduce glare and may give you more vivid colors, depending on your angle relative to the sun.

I would say a polarizer is a great idea, get a split ND filter too. It's really best to shoot near sunrise or sunset but you'll still get some cool shots!

Hold a piece of white paper over the top of the object (ie mushroom) or something else that will defuse the light - should kill any harsh shadows

Thanks.
Try to find scenes that are totally in shadow, or simply have normal dynamic range your camera can handle. Watch out for the blue colour cast in shadow areas, you might want to remove or just control them in post-processing.

To the extent possible, still put the sun at your back. (Just gotta state the obvious sometimes. )

If you are in the woods you are probably going to be in shade so you should have little to no problem. Just set your WB to shade.

Thanks for all of the ideas. Your thoughts are appreciated. I know that early morning and evening are ideal but if I'm out walking why let the time of day stop me.

Thanks again.
