Default Eerie Sun

Smokey Sun

I took this shot over 12 months ago when the smoke of the bushfires in Victoria drifted all the way up north to Canberra, creating this eerie reflection of a horror far worse thousands of miles away.

Nice work! Have you experimented with placing the sun a little less central in the composition?

the instructions with my Coolpix advises not to shoot the sun. It's partially obscurred here though.

Direct sunlight to the ccd can damage it actually, some camera like coolpix doesn't have the fast shutter speed 1/8000 like the DSLR have. So the coolpix cannot take direct sunlight shots. Another way is putting a filter, if don't have filter, your sunglasses also can be a good filter.

A very nice image. I also would have liked the sun more of to one side and possibly lower in the sky. I would have waited to see what a later sunset would have brought to the table and let it go down further with more of the silhouetted ridge to look at. A longer lens to bring the ridge in closer.

Good shot, although I agree with the comments on moving the position of the sun. The ring around the sun is very interesting.
