Default Nifty Fifty for Fireworks?

Im looking at purchasing a nifty fifty i will probably be switching this out from my kit lens 18-55, then later purchase a prime 28mm if i like the 50mm..

at the moment i use the 18-55 for most shots and then i usually use it in the 50mm range so i may asa well get a fifty, however would it be useful for fireworks, because if i get one ill be needing it for new years eve, where ill be off to disney once again (i try and go most new years to disney world florida!).

Im already planning the kit i will need for when i go across..

so far i have thought of:

Batteries, grip, 4x4gb Sandisk IVs, EOS 400d, 18-55(currently will switch when i get the fifty), 55-200mm, 175-500mm, tripod and Gorilla pod, wet weather gear (poncho from disney )

I wouldn't replace the kit with the 50. I'm not sure if that's what you're suggesting or not. As far as using it for fireworks, it's tough to say, if you just want the fireworks, without any of the surrounding stuff, then it'd probably be fine. However, if you want the buildings (castle?) it might be a problem. It's hard to say specifically, because you might find a vantage point where the 50 works.

well i'll be in epcot for the fireworks, and i usually try and get "show center" opposite the canadian pavillion for the fireworks, sitting on the benches there where there are no trees and i can then setup my tripod to shoot from there with cable release (or that is how i used to do it with my fujifilm s9600) so i was thinking of employing the same technique this year with the canon.

Cable release and tripod should be good, but it's hard to say without actually being there about the lens. Best advice I can give you is to scout the location when it's daytime.
