This is my first post on this site. The most impotent thing is Next mouth I'm going to Norway and its a trip of a life time. Whit traveling that far I need to get a good photo of the northern lights. Any help on how to do this would be great. I'm using a canon 400D with a sigma 18-200mm lens.
Please help me with this. |

Welcome to DPS...
I'd say you should have a tripod and spare batteries at a minimum. Batteries tend to die faster in the cold - so it's got to have a couple in your pocket warming up while one is in your camera. Should your battery die from the cold, just put it in your pocket. A tripod and a cable release of some kind will be nice. I'm not sure how bright the aurora will be, so i don't know what kind of shutter speed you'll need. But for detail in the dark landscape you'll want longer exposures - so make sure you've a stable platform - don't use image stabilization if you use a tripod. |
