If it's going to be seriously overcast, you may not get much of a chance at landscapes. I really would work on the "let's study this rock" type photos... but they can still be brief!
Another good option in that kind of weather is... portraits! You could get your wife involved, and take some landscape portraits with her as the subject, and interesting landscapes/roadscapes/etc. as the background. In that case, the overcast sky acts as a giant diffuser for you, so it will help instead of hurt the photos. Good luck!

You can still take landscapes in overcast conditions, they just might need some post-processing to bring out good results. Check out this thread for an example of just that.

Thanks for the thoughts. The weather forecast is a little better, some rain in the morning then clearing as the day goes on. We might get lucky.
