Default inspiration for photographing a certain country.

is there any decent websites out there that anyone knows off that shows a country at its greatest?
on my trip to America i will go going to all the hot spots and landmarks and what not and was looking for some inspiration as i don't want to take the same old photos that have been done a million times before, i want to be inspired to try a new angle or composition etc.

ive tried looking around but am still getting the same old photos that are simply 'records' of the statue of liberty etc, humm..

There are good photographs to be had almost every where.
It just a matter of always having your camera in your hand, ready to shoot, being very alert and making sure you are ready to shoot from early morning and at least until after the "blue hour". Be prepared to get off the beaten track.

If you are interested in landscapes this site may be of interest. (Outdoor Photographer: Your favourite places:North America: United States)

Where & when are you visiting, and how are you getting around (package tour or independantly )? We have had 4 vacations and one short break in the USA, the last two with a digital camera.

depends on where you are going in America really... every region has its own beauty and as a whole it's quite varied, but then the same could really be said about any country really i suppose lol.

Looking for a new angle or composition on the internet isn't really going to work, if you see my logic. You'll have to come up with it yourself! What about putting 'New York' or wherever into Flickr. Also check out the travel photography series here on the Dps blog, I think there was one for architecture that might be useful.

twistedclocks,

I saw your gallery and it looks like you already know what you are doing. I don't know of any websites that directly answer your question. I did find Through The Lens: Creative Photography - Unusual Angles, which lists some tips from pro photographer Dave Peterson:

1. Hold your camera at waist height and click while walking around. Some photos will be blurred, but you can usually find some that are very good. This works particularly well in sunlight when walking around a tourist area.
2. When shooting any subject with a lot of straight lines (like someone on a fence), turn the camera 45 degrees to give a diagonal look to your image that enhances the mood of the picture.
3. Sometimes the best images need to be taken from unusual locations such as from the top of a building (for a birds eye shot) or right down on the ground. Also point the camera different ways .including straight up or straight down. Don’t be afraid to try different angles. Placing your camera at angles of 30 degrees from the horizontal or vertical lines work well.
4. When finding that great angle, don’t worry about looking the fool! Being self-conscious will affect your ability to find great angles, your concentration, and maybe even the quality of your photographs.
5. You don’t need to go to extremes to find a great angle - even standing on a step, or getting down onto one knee can make a lot of difference.
6. To make small things look large, lie on the ground and hold your camera towards the sky. This will make your small subject look like a giant! This also works well for tall buildings such as lighthouses.

I'm sure some of this is review for you, but hopefully there is something that helps.
