Default 2nd time out

Only my second time out with my new dslr camera. Was hoping to get some feedback on how I can improve. I know the lens I am using isn't a very quality one compared to some of the lens used on these forums.

I particularly like the mood of this image.

You have some lovely elements in your shot, beautiful colors, reflections in the water and a sillouette against the sky. Perhaps you should just emphasize one aspect as your focus and let the others be secondary. Lowering the horizon line so that it is not directly in the center and removing the reflection might work. Of course, this is just my opinion, others might have a different idea.

Congrats on the new dslr . Have fun shooting!

Thanks for your kind words and advice. I am having tons of fun learning.

After reading your hints and further reading on composition and the rule of thirds I had to run down to the beach for some more shooting.

Here is what I came up with:

KrazyKanuk,

Looks as though you have a handle on basics of camera; maybe some study on forum and blog could help out with choice of subject. The cut-off sign and the mass of clear sky are telling me the camera works, but what else?

As Saralonde says, focus on one aspect of a scene. Think of telling a story with a photo, a simple quickly-understood interesting story. Your viewer will stop a moment to read, and enjoy.

I love the mood too. I'm not a professional, but I wouldn't change a thing.
