Photographing Ruins

I have to say, I'm amazed at how well tended those ruins appear to be! Up here (northern Michigan, in da states), we have a gazillion ruins -- but even the ones which are parks or touristy places, aren't nearly as neat as that. It looks like there's a gardener on staff or something!

They belong to English Heritage so it's almost a duty of care iyswim. Plus i think the local councils look after these buildings and grounds too.

Not all ruins are in the same condition here in the UK though, which is a great shame as it's nearly 1000 years of historical architecture disappearing in front of our eyes.

When I know I would be venturing into ruins, I would also pack my own hard hat and high cut walking boots. Supervised tours of ruins hand out hard hats for hire but they stink like hades... Boots are good for those slippery crags and stones.
