Default Falkland Islands - Landscapes

I am visiting the Falklands for two weeks soon, and would welcome some tips for shooting the bleak, but, wonderful landscapes down there.

A severe lack of trees, means getting something into the foreground is not too easy. Although in places there are some wonderful stone runs.

I will be visiting some of the memorials whilst down there and hopefully plenty of penguins and other wild life.

I would welcome some tips about taking some landscape photos in this wonderful country

Terry

Hi and welcome to dps. I guess you have no replies becuz The Falklands is not exactly a hot tourist spot.
I've never been there either so all I can suggest is to shoot whatever appeals to you. Also, it is surrounded by the South Atlantic so you should be able to get some good seascapes. Maybe even some penguins and pelicans.

Best of luck and be sure to share your shots when you get back.

cheers!
Ian

Oh, yes, tips: take a wide angle lens, tripod and rain gear. I think it's still summer (such as it is) in that area, so hopefully it won't be too cold.

Sorry- I just saw this. You should be able to get some nice landscapes- rock rivers, shorescapes, wrecked ships, etc. You'll be able to get some shots with the borse (spelling?) with the yellow flowers.

Gorse is probably the name of the bush (Ulex europaeus). I'd try for some shots with a low horizon and plenty of sky, making sure the exposure is set to make the most of the clouds, emphasising how open the space is.

Prince Andrew flew a Sea King helicopter for the Navy during the Falklands Conflict.

Be careful were you go - I believe that they are still in the process of clearing land mines !!

I sugest you Goggle 'Fawklands Landscape' & 'Fawklands Photo Gallery' - this will give you an idea of what you might expect.

Above all ENJOY & be sure to post the results.

These are stunning images and good exposure. I like the composition. Well done.
