Default Ansel Adams?

When I found this cluster of birch trees next to an old iron bridge, I couldn't help but think it would be a good composition for a high contrast B&W shot. I wish the treeline was less "busy" but I hope I have at least captured the look I was going for here:

The one nod I see in the direction of Ansel Adams is the tonal range of the image. Aside from that, I don't think the composition would meet his standards or anyone else's, for that matter. Without seeing the scene for myself, I don't know that I can offer much in the way of suggestions.
Somewhere, and don't ask me where because I can't remember, but somewhere I saw some of Adam's images that didn't make it. Not so much from an exposure standpoint, he always seemed to be spot-on there, but from a composition standpoint. I got the impression he was experimenting, trying to see how different things worked in his camera. In that respect, your image has a great deal to do with his work. Hey, you tried it and it didn't quite work...but you did come away with a couple lessons you can put to use next time.

I'm not seeing the composition here either. However, I am drawn to the brightness of the trees in this B/W shot. I think the iron detracts from the photo because it just doesn't have a particularly interesting design. You can't really identify it as anything other than "stuff". I love to get shots looking up into trees because they have such interesting angles. Just my thoughts...nothing more.
