I'm not sure how much it helped in this shot anyway. Without the polarizer, the dark blue sky could easily be achieved with adjustments in Photoshop. Same with whitening the clouds. I bet the reflection would've been much brighter without it as the filter cuts down reflections and is probably the reason we can see through the water rather than just seeing the blue sky reflected. It may have helped take some glare off the grass but probably not enough to make a huge difference.

yeah, you are right Sterling.
I messed with it as an HDR and like it better. It introduced way to much noise in parts of the sky (HDR does that), but I still like it better.

Not sure what you were working with to start since the image in the first post is now broken. It's usually a good idea to leave the original file so people who come along later can follow the discussion.
As for the issues with the Circular Polarizer, Darwin Widgett recently wrote a post on the singh-ray blog about when to use them, Focus on Singh-Ray Filters: Seven Rules for Effectively Using a Polarizer |

I also understand what your talking about when you refereed to friend's comments. For what it's worth, I attended the South East Center for Photographic Studies in Daytona in 83 & 84. After that I owned a commercial studio and shot for Southern Homes magazine as well as a couple dozen ad agencies for a few years. In 87 I decided to make money instead and went into finance. Never lost the bug though.
