Hello,

I am new to the world of digital photography, having recently made the leap from film, though I am still a film user and I very much enjoy the hands-on, processing side of it.

I purchased a digital SLR as I was going on safari in Tanzania and wanted to have that security of knowing then and there I had the shots I wanted, and of course, could take 1000 of them without going over my weight limit with film!

I went out last month to take some shots of the snow and would appreciate some feedback on this shot. I used some filters and done no post-processing work on it.

One question I have is ‘I do like the blue, but is it too blue?’

Pentax K20d
ISO 800
1/60th sec
f 6.7
focal length: 18mm

Cheers,

i like the composition for sure but it looks noisy probably down to the ISO 800

If you can go back try a lower ISO like 100, and f11 or higher for a greater DOF

all the best.

Thanks for your comments.

The thing I liked about film photography is the grain, and this is something I have tried to carry into digital.

But yeah, taking sharper, cleaner digital photographs is something I will need to move into. Unfortunately, we've had a thaw on this last 2 weeks and all the snow is gone so I don't see me getting that shot again!

Maybe next year.

ahh we've had the same problem the snow has gone which has it's good and bad points.

I know what you mean about grain but, this can be added in post production with something like photo shop elements (the cheaper cut down version of photo shop) if that's the desired effect your after, personally i would still try and get it pin sharp first then apply the gradient in post.

all the best and welcome to the forums!!
