I took this at an abandoned disillery near my house. Is the composition ok? Any suggestions would be helpful since I am new to digital photography.

If this is near your house - definitely go back again but decide on an area of the building to shoot - try for early morning or late afternoon (golden hours). Try a few exposures or use Auto Bracketing and combine them for an HDR shot. I think the building has scope for a reat shot

I think the building has a lot of potential for a good photo, but I would try taking many shots from different angles. Also, try to get higher and also down low shooting up. I don't know if you can get inside the gate, but that would give you a lot more options.
