Default Exploding Sunset

Took this one last May and kind of forgot about it. It was an incredible sunset after a mostly stormy afternoon. You can see the trailing edge of the last line of storms along the top of the image.

I would like critique on the composition itself. Does the "triple" contrast effect of the top line of clouds, colorful center stripe, and bottom black foreground draw you in or is this just another nameless "pretty" sunset?

Thanks barabe! I know what happened...I cropped it and replaced it in Flickr and forgot to update the post. It should be visible in DPS now. Thanks!

The dark top/bottom and progressively brighter bands leading to the sunset really does draw the eye in. the tall tree to the left *almost* works as a "subject/focal point"...overall, it is stronger than most, but in the end mostly pretty colors.

I think I would crop it down from the rt so that the sun itself was approx bottom 1/3 center. I think that might work better and make the tree silhouette a stronger part of the composition.

Here's a quick edit showing what I'm thinking... There's something weird going on as it won't upload/show exactly right, but you get the idea.

Cool idea sk66! I like it. Unfortunately I already cropped the original a bit so cropping it so small pretty much means I'm stuck in a size smaller than 8x10 for a print.

Some days you just can't win.
