Default Lake Scanno

I'm considering entering this image in a landscape competition. I like it but perhaps my judgement is clouded because we had such a great holiday there. My question - should I crop the bottom off so not so much water shows? Is it too blue? Any suggestions on what I can do to improve would be welcome. Obviously the best suggestion would be to go back and retake it but unfortunately that's impossible!

Lake Scanno, Abruzzo, Italy

Exposure: 0.003 sec (1/320)
Aperture: f/5.6
Focal Length: 4.6 mm
ISO Speed: 100

I think cropping the bottom would be a good choice. The water looks murky in the foreground and isn't very beautiful. If the water takes up the bottom third of image I think it would look nice. Also, the mountain in the distance seems a tad overexposed. I wonder if you could do some pp to fix that. Looks like a beautiful place to vacation!

I think maybe the uncropped version (with the different color water) is good because the color of the water is different and gives you a different color in the scene. Or maybe it is distracting.
I think I kind of like the first better.

Thanks for commenting. When you say too bright, is that overall, or the water, or landscape?

To me, the original uncropped version works better as it gives the picture more depth than when you crop it, and it also does give it a bit more colour depth in the sense it balances out the blue.

It's a beautiful shot, but you're onto a point. I think we are all very closely and emotially attached to our own photographs and the experience and feelings we had when we took the picture. Of course this is what makes photography interesting as when we can convey our feelings in photographs often that will make a successful image.

As for entering it into a competition - you got to be in it to win it, so go for it!

One last note I would make, is that I do think this image might have some potential as a black and white interpretation as well although a few more white puffy clouds over the mountains would have been nice for that.

Good luck!

I'm a little unclear as to what the subject is. It's a beautiful lake, but the shot here just isn't that interesting.

In landscape photography, when you shoot is more important than where you shoot.

Yes! I'll try black and white, didn't occur to me to be honest. As for the subject, I suppose there isn't one except the landscape... I was trying to capture the length of the lake.
