![]() I'm still brand new with my DSLR. I happend to see out my window this morning the sky and how beautiful it was. So I grabbed my camera to try and capture it. I thought as I took it that I have NO idea HOW to take a sunrise picture. I've not learned the manual settings and had no clue what to try. So this was just an auto mode with the flash off. Nothing fancy. What could I have done to make it better? It doesn't seem to have done the actual sunrise justice. Or is there any post production that could improve it? What settings should I try for a sunrise like this and maybe I can try again tomorrow? Thanks so much. This is my 1st time asking for advice, please be gentle. ![]() Canon EOS Digital Rebel XS Exposure: 0.02 sec (1/50) Aperture: f/5.0 Focal Length: 41 mm ISO Speed: 400 Exposure Bias: 0 EV Flash: Off, Did not fire |

Hi Rhea,
This is a wonderful sunrise! Even though the exposure was automatic, you still framed the shot. Congratulations! If you want to try again, you could start with the camera in manual mode with it set exactly as the on-board computer set itself: ISO 400, 1/50, f/5.0 as a starting point and then play around with the settings and see if you find something you like better. Well done! KG |

Thanks for the feedback! I'm so excited that I actually did better than I thought.

Looks like you exposed for the sky, which is always a good thing. The composition of the two trees works really well, IMO. Perhaps shooting in RAW and manipulating the colors a bit might improve the shot, but I also think it looks good as is. Worthy of a spot on your fridge.
