Default Suggestions on composition improvements

Took this whilst in Monterrey a few days ago. Was thinking of making this a mono picture then adjusting it but decided against for now.

Exif:

Camera: Canon EOS Digital Rebel XS
Exposure: 0.003 sec (1/400)
Aperture: f/5.0
Focal Length: 18 mm
ISO Speed: 100
Lens: Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS

You may want to check the forum rules for the "Critique" section, they are sticky'd in the forum.

Noted.

Was a bit tired when I made the post. Too late to edit the post title now I'm afraid.

You shot this photo with a (nearly) open aperture. I think it may improve when you shoot at a smaller aperture of f/8 or f/16. The shutter speed certainly allows for f/8. It'll give a larger DOF and will probably give an overall sharper photo. A graduate ND filter could have evened out the exposure a bit.

Thanks for the advice. Even though the ISO was set to 100, would a larger DOF equate to less noise in the photo as well?

Nope, DOF and sensor noise are unrelated.

I love the many contrasts in this image - and there are lots of them! I'm particular drawn to both the colour contrast and contrast between nature and technology.

As a suggestion, you could point the cam more in the direction of the nature so it covers approx 2/3 of the frame, or visa versa, and make the division more diagonal. It's a very 'busy' image, which i think works very well, but sometimes having too many elements in one photo makes it hard for the viewer to concentrate on the main message of the image.

The image is essentially composed of 2 contrasting parts, so isolating them in photoshop and subjecting them to different photoshopping might be an idea e.g. making the techo side black and white and contrasty (even a HDR effect to bring out the dirt and grime), and keeping the nature side colourful and less contrasty.

Maybe would have swung the cam left a touch to keep out the wall on the right and just have leading lines instead. Maybe a crop? I like it, TFS!
