in Belgium.
I would like composition critique. Personally I think the left of the picture is quite boring. I tried cropping it, but did not like the result. Maybe I should go back tomorrow? ![]() ![]() Camera: Nikon D80 Aperture: f/11.0 Focal Length: 10 mm ISO Speed: 100

Love the setting as a whole and the colors. The one thing I'm not fond of is the walkway off to the side. It kind of cuts the photo off, if that makes sense.
Maybe either put the walkway in the middle or perhaps a different angle

I can see where the frustration might be. It would be best if the shack fell more distinctly into the rule of thirds. However, if you crop it into the top right third, you lose some of the leading line of the walkway. Tough call.
I did a little cropping here on my computer, and you can crop to the thirds and keep most of the leading line. But then you lose some of the great colors in the sky. Maybe head back out and position yourself where you can get sky, the shack in the upper right third, AND a leading line. Beautiful colors - great shot! |

Hi ronald.be,
It is cold in Osaka too! I like this shot and the left side doesn't bother me. I also like Denja crop. In fact, I would go even farther and crop some of the foreground out as well so that it is more of a panoramic type shot. Or, what about cropping so that it is a vertical shot? That would focus the image on just the shack and make the leading line of the path even stronger. If you want to re-shoot. What about changing your angle so that the path is diagonally leading into the frame? I don't know if it would be possible on the ice, but it you moved to the right and you might be able to get the path cutting across the frame. KG |

![]() @ KansaiGreenie At that moment, I was unable to stand on the ice (at least for more than a few seconds :-)) so I was very limited on finding the correct angle/compo. At this moment, the ice would be thick enough to stand on but alas it is currently snowing (a lot) and I am unable to go out and take pictures. ![]() But thanks for the replies. Appreciated!
