Default My first Christmas themed night shot

This is my first attempt to making photographs at night. I soon discovered that I really need a tripod for this and I have put it on my Christmas wish-list. I have now improvised a bit and put my Canon Digital Ixus 55 on a branch of a tree and used the 10sec self timer to prevent camera movement when pressing the shutter.

I used 1 second exposure time, Exposure bias +1 and no flash (according to the photo meta data), unfortunately I cannot see what the ISO value was that I used.

Any comments?

I like the idea of this shot. The building to the left with the reflection in the water makes a great subject, but there seems to be too much dead space. I would suggest getting closer and filling the frame with the building and reflection. Thats my opinion anyways.

I have to agree on the dead space. This is a great shot, but it is the building that is the most striking and that great reflection. I would focus my attention there. Good Job!

Thanks for your feedback. I tried cropping the photo to remove some of the dead space, but then the image quality deteriorated too much. I will try to make another photo but this time I'll use the zoom function, hopefully it will improve the composition.

Really the best way to improve this is find a still surface or tripod and put your camera in Shutter Priority or Tv I believe it is for Canon and then set the exposure to 30 seconds. It is easy and gets the job done.
