The colors are great. The only thing I can think of would be to do a two shot HDR where you take a longer exposure of the building and foreground to bring out some more details in them.

Hi Mike,

Great color in this shot. The blue and orange color compliment is very striking and is one of my favorite color combinations. Two ideas that I had about this shot...

First, it seems as if the silo and the tower are bending towards each other. 18mm is pretty wide and sometimes you get lens distortion. I used to have a 50D with the 18-200mm kit lens and I often had trouble keeping lines straight at 18mm. I would try the lens correction feature in photoshop to see if you couldn't straighten them up a bit.

The other idea I had… I think that this image would be much stronger as a vertical composition. A vertical composition would emphasize the height of the tower and the silo and reduce the empty space on the left side of the image.

Great job.

The colors are awesome. I think your lens has slight distortion. The tower and silo seem to curve to me. I like the clouds in the right part of the frame, but the lower right corner seems too "busy" and distracting. I might try getting low (on the ground?) to remove them from the frame. Either that or move more to the "left" so they aren't (as) visible.

I like it. I think you captured the right moment of the sunrise to get those highlights.

I do agree with changing the composition to vertical, or at least zooming in a bit. In contrast, I think zooming OUT a bit will work very nicely as well, in order to capture more of the sky and the surrounding areas...unless the area isn't nice looking.

Also, while I do like the colours and the time of day seems right, I think you should wait a bit longer next time before taking the photo so that the sun is cast on the entire farm. You may loose some of the orange glow, but it will still look better in my opinion. Alternatively, you can hang around for a while and take some shots both like this and when the sun is full-on the entire farm and compare them; the sun rises fast so I can't imagine it being more than 1/2 an hour between these two shots. This is a good idea though, I like where you are going with this one.
