Two members were very kind to leave comments regarding my previously posted photo, so I am now posting this one that has different settings. Alan, you've done a good job with the exposure.
Just some constructive ideas re composition: - Check your horizon to make sure it's level - easy to fix in PP if it's not. - I would like to see all of the sandstone wall surrounding the fountain. - The top of the arch of the water jets is blocking the view of the sharp and well exposed trees. Shooting from a little lower down would mean you would be able to see the trees more clearly through the fountain. - The foreground is a little out of focus. Can I suggest you google "hyperfocal distance". It's a technique you can use to get maximum depth of field in your shot.

Neil,
Thank you so much for your pointers. I have noted the suggestions and will definitely try them out. Every day I visit DPS, I learn something new. Thanks to you, I will remember to think critically about composition. Thanks, Alan

I like this a lot better than the version with the flash! On my D300 I can display lines in the viewfinder which helps me align images. Do you have that option?

Eduard,
I think my camera does have that option. I read something about that in the manual. I am at work right now so I will check when I get home. I looked at your pictures on Pbase and may I just say that I am in awe of your shooting technique. It means so much to me that you took time to look at MY picture and commented on it. I really liked the Baltimore and lake Como pictures. I actually drove on the Savannah GA bridge on Sunday! If you dont mind, I may have questions from time to time regarding techniques and procedures. Alan

Alan:
I'm glad that you enjoyed my images. Thank you very much for the kind comments. I hope you understand that those are some of my favorites after shooting millions.... okay thousands of images that were discarded. I'm trying to make more time to try different settings and options. Honestly, I think I've improved greatly by attending one of the Nikonian workshops ("Master Your Nikon D300 In Depth") and getting candid feedback from others. I'm new to this site and finding the "community" very friendly and helpful. Not something you can say about a lot of the others. Otherwise, anything I can do, please don't hesitate to ask. Regards, Ed
