Default Lacks Something, No 'Punch'

What I wanted to capture here is a sense of depth using the vertical lines and light. Did that I think but ... it lacks something, no 'punch' to it. Suggestions?

Exposure Time : 1/60Sec
F Number : F8.0
ISO : 400
Exposure Bias : EV0.5
Focal Length : 55.00(mm)

I also see three separate pictures in one here (each roughly 1/3 of whole). One is posted below.

I see what you mean. It seems like there is no focal point of the picture. Also if you want some depth, you might to think about foreground, middleground, background. Get up close and personal to one of the trees, or perhaps think about getting low and shooting upwards or something. That would be my suggestions. I had this problem when shooting scenes on hikes I did. I always felt like the photo didn't do justice. Keep trying.

Yes -- I don't see a strong subject. Finding something (even something small) to focus on would really help. Actually, something small might be best, because it would emphasize the size of the trees.

Default No Punch part 2

This is a crop of the above picture. I think it now has a focal point. Seems to me the eye is drawn to the middle vertical line.

I''m just a beginner but in this version my eye is drawn just barely to the left of the middle vertical tree. One can "almost" imagine a path there - if I was walking here, I would head that direction. So that gives it a focus to me. I like this cropped version better.

I like the new crop but think you might be over sharpening. I applied the Topaz Adjust Simplify filter in CS4 (with a slight color adjustment and crop on the left side). What do you think?

Thanks for your efforts. The cropping was slight but did make a difference. As for the other adjustment I'm not sure what to think. Hard to tell in the small version. I'll download it a see.

Your shot made me think of this shot I took for the same reasons(vertical lines and such)
