Default At the beach-Composition critique/help

Hey everyone,

Need some tips on this picture. While I really do love this shot-I titled it 'Waiting' and reminded me about how life can be a similar game-I think I could have improved on my composition and made it more 'stronger'. Just not sure how to shoot this differently? What do you think??

Im still learning to compose, so your help will go a long way.

Thanks Priya.

Waiting...

I think you have a very nice photo here just to much sky is all. It adds nothing to it so I would have used a landscape instead of portrait style try cropping done on the sky to see what I mean. Just my opinion.

That is a nice shot which conveys the idea well. I agree a landscape format would be interesting to try, and maybe try from a lower angle to put more emphasis on the fishing rods?

Thanks Aegea! YES-I think a lower angle, perhaps closer to the rod would have helped. I wish I had taken a few more shots of this-unfortunately, time didnt permit. Thanks heaps for your comment

What lens did you use? I would try an ultra wide angle at a low angle. Great eye to see the shot!

Priya, just because you did not have time to take more photos while you where there does not mean you can't work with what you have. Try messing with it in post. I hope you don't mind but I did a quick crop in post to give you a different look.

Thanks Eduard-Im using the basic lense that I have (14-42mm). Im very new to photography and refuse to let myself buy a lense until I make really good use of this one. But yes, I can see what you mean by the low angle, will try that the next time.
