Am posting for the first time. New to photography, so using a point and shoot for now.
Appreciate any comments on how to improve.

That's a pretty good shot as it stands. I feel there is rather more sky than you need, maybe crop out a bit? Also, I find using a polarizing filter can darken the sky and makes the colors "pop" in shots like this.

it's a nice pic... but you could crop out a bit of the sky and darken the clouds a bit more like what aegea said.

One suggestion I would make would be to clone out the roof tops, light post, etc. that are just peeking above the horizon just to clean up your nice composition.

Welcome to DPS. If you wouldnt mind, I'd like to invite you to take a peek at the guidelines. That way you'll know what you need to add to your post. Thank you!

Default Thanks

Thanks all of you for the great comments.

Will crop the sky a bit.

Just one question regarding the polarizing filter, does it have to be applied while taking the picture or can I do some post processing?

My camera might not have a polarizing option. Will check it in any case.

A polarizing filter fits over the lens of the camera when the photo is being taken - sorry, you can't pp it! On DSLRs there's usually a screw thread at the front of the lens so that different screw-in filters can be used.

Though not as good as a filter on your lens, Nik's Color Efex does have a "Polarization" option.
