My apologies, my train of thought derailed when I had to change a diaper. I was wondering about composition and subject. I'm wondering if this is even a shot that is even good enough to post. I guess I'm not sure yet how to distinguish between a shot that is "good enough" to post or share and one that is just a random snap shot. I know this may sound silly but being new to sharing my photography, I'm just not sure how to evaluate my own work.

Composition-wise, I think your photo looks pretty good. The pole is positioned in a pleasing spot and and lines lead you into the photo. I also like the silhouette effect. It makes the subject (power pole and lines), which is usually a subject that "busy's up" a photo, more pleasing as well.

All-in-all, a rather intriguing photo. A couple technical tips for you to increase image quality. For landscape photos, use a smaller aperture such as something between f/8 and f/13. At f/5, you are limiting your depth of field. Also, use as low of an ISO as your camera allows. That's usually ISO 100. The slower the film speed, the better image quality you will get. This means you will also need to use a tripod...which is a third way to increase quality.

Hope that helps!

Awesome, thanks! This was hand held because I had already taken my tripod inside. I was surprised at the quality given the high ISO though. Thanks very much for the advise.
