Default I'm on a BOAT!!!

What do you think about this picture? I can't tell if I like it. Maybe too much postprocessing, maybe just a bad picture. Lay it on me.

Hi! Do you have the EXIF data for the picture? It's extremely useful when doing a critique so we know how the photo was taken. We can use it to figure out the root cause of many problems (and successes!). Also, take a look at the forum rules for more helpful info.

Boat
In photo shop do a filter layer and use a dark cooling filter, then select the layer you just made and select the brush tool. Paint with black where you want to remove the cooling filter (in this case the boat) do a match color and adjust the sliders to pump up the color and and illumination where they look the best. Do a slight un-sharp mask and finally a slight adjustment on the exposure if needed.

I didn't spend much time and may have a little to much blue but It should come out something like this
(wish I had the original to work with)

Photobucket

It's actually very well composed, I feel if I were in the boat I would turn to port and head out to open water.
Try to get it right or as close to right in the camera as you can. This makes less work in post and a better picture.

good luck
Robert

PS. message me if I can help.

Thanks for the replies. Here is the Exif data:

Camera: Olympus E-510
Exposure: 0.004 sec (1/250)
Aperture: f/8.0
Focal Length: 14 mm
ISO Speed: 100
Exposure Bias: 0 EV
Flash: Auto, Did not fire

I had originally edited the photo to add in that greenish tint. I liked that, and it seems as if you actually undid many of the edits that I did. Maybe that means that the picture was best left the way it was.

I appreciate the input.

I quite like the sombre blue duotone look of this photo. The mood created goes well with the rusty, crusty boat. There's something about the composition that doesn't quite sit right with me but I can't put my finger on it...

I can't help but ask if the title of the thread is a reference to a SNL Digital Short.
