Cool Montreal downtown fog

I did quite a few landscape but not much cityscape. I would like to have some feedback on this shot. What do you think about the compositon? Does the contrast between sunny and dark areas work? How can i shoot fog to really stand out in a scene like this one? Any other comments are aprecaited.

Hi Martin! Aerial photography (from a plane or a tall building) can be a tricky thing. Usually back-lit buildings when viewed from above are a bit drab as the detail is mostly hidden and the unique position of the horizon doesn't help...but it really depends on the composition and the location.

I think composition-wise, yours isn't too bad. The haze kind of lessens any "pop" in the picture as well as the dark contrast which is kind of hiding any detail, especially without a colorful sky or colorful side-lighting.

Haze/fog is tough to shoot through and make it look good from above...unless it really adds to the composition, such as a skyscraper sticking through really low fog/clouds.

The trick is really the lighting. Same principles apply as on the ground really.

Cool place!

I wanted to get there earlier to capture the top of the taller buildings just sticking out but with all the fog around, there were a ton of accidents and very slow trafik so when i got there the fog had mostly moved away. Thank you for the input navcom.
