Do you have yor exif info to post? knowing your camera settings will play a huge part in answering your questions.

Without the reflections and hi-lights off the rain soaken bricks, the foreground would have been rather plain, however it is now rather intriguing. Good job using that to your advantage.
The two people in the frame add a human interest which works well also. In my opinion I would not worry about lighting the other side of the sign but the hot spot to the left is a bit distracting. The halos around the lamp are barely visible to me, so I don't consider it to hurt or help. I would consider squaring off the crop. Most of your interest seems to be centered around the lightpost,sign and people. I don't feel the details to the right of the sign are adding anything to the composition.

Tom: Great suggestion about squaring it off. I will play around with that idea. Until you mentioned it, I didn't notice the hot spot! Thanks for pointing that out. The reflection off the bricks is what caught my eye.
