Default Lakescape

Hello all,

I'm relatively new to digital photography, moved up from P&S about 4 months ago. Been working hard at it, improving, but......looking for other opinions.

This photo is my favorite from a September trip (nothing more recent that I'm excited about for the moment) we took to Lake Konstanz, Germany. I was working on depth of field, hence aperture priority.

What do you think?
- does the Ferry Flag distract from the photo?
- is the foreground (the city) too dark?
- what do you think of the composition, particularly vertically? Too much water?

All critiques are welcome, please feel free to comment on any aspect of the photo.

Thanks in advance.

I think you pretty much itemized the negatives of your own shot. I did a quick edit, and although the horizon still appears slanted,I think its because of the shape of the shoreline.

I think Armando pretty much hit it. Land/house strip a little too much in the center and the pole is pretty distracting. Cool architecture!

Thanks for opinions and, on some points, confirmation.

Armando - thanks for the edit, I think how someone else chooses to edit a photo is a valuable and unique critique of it's own.

navcom - the architecture here is amazing. "Old" often means originally built in the 3 digit AD dates, if not BC.

It's very lovely countryside! Having relatives that came from a bit east of you in Bavaria, I have a bit of bias towards the Siegsdorf/Austrian border area.

This photo was taken very near the German Bavarian and Austrian borders. The city is Meersburg, maybe 20 miles from the Baden-Wurttenburg/Bavaria Border, 30 from Austria. Quite a ways from Seigsdorf though. Beautiful part of the world.
