Default michigan lighthouse

I was trying to give a feeling of the size and height of the lighthouse. I was hoping that the viewers eyes would start on the house first and then follow up the building to the top. Do you think I achieveed this and what are your thoughts about the compostion and over quality of this shot.

It's a nice subject but the brightest of the lighthouse has seemed to eliminate any texture in it. Might try increasing the shadows in post processing to see if you can bring out a bit of texture.
The car in the background could have been eliminated by a few steps to the right.
One great way to offer a sense of scale is by adding a person to the frame.

I always enjoy lighthouse pics and have quite a few of Michigans myself. I'm pretty new to trying to do fine photo work as opposed to point and shoot but here is an idea you might try. By moving to your right (as previously mentioned) and using side lighting instead of front you could have more shadowing and contrast.
