Default Old tree stump in B&W

Out taking fall pictures last week I came across this stump and thought it would make for a nice black and white photo so in my PP I converted it. In the past most my B&W stuff has been from film and printed in a dark room so I am still getting the feel for making a B&W conversion on my digital images so any in put you may have would be appreciated.

Converted using Capture NX 1.3
Nikon D80, Nikon 18-55mm @ 34mm, 1/60s - f4.5, ISO 100

Thanks,
Mike

Problem I'm seeing is that the top of the stump is kind of blending in with the trees in the background.
I think a tighter crop at the top would atleast eliminate some of the clutter and color clash .

Thanks for the in put. I can see where that jagged top edge gets lost in the back ground foliage.

Thanks for the in put, I think I will need to go back and play with the original image some more now.
